Tree of Life: Dia de Los Muertos

7.25 x 5.25 x 7.25 inches

When the Spanish arrived in Mexico and began to build Catholic churches, they began to craft candelabras from clay for their services. This craft took off as a folk art in Mexico, and has become very well known worldwide. Eventually they became a way to depict the creation of Adam and Eve and the story of the Garden of Eden. While the majority of these sculptures still carry religious iconography, new themes have been introduced as well, such as Day of the Dead, animals and nature, and some are still simply gorgeous candelabras.
