Tonalá, Jalisco has been a hot spot for pottery since before the Spanish arrived, but their influence solidified the process seen today. The clay found in this area is incredibly fine, resulting in a very dense ceramic when fired at a high heat. Pottery from this area of Mexico comes with a high amount of detail in the design work. Typical motifs can include owls, flowers, deer, and the moon and sun.
