Tonalá, Jalisco has been a hot spot for pottery since before the Spanish arrived, but their influence solidified the process seen today. The clay found in this area is incredibly fine, resulting in a very dense ceramic when fired at a high heat. Pottery from this area of Mexico comes with a high amount of detail in the design work. Typical motifs can include owls, flowers, deer, and the moon and sun. Multiple unique processes have been conceived in Tonalá, further described below.
